statementGwen Charles, born in New York City, attended Parsons School of Design, NY (1993-96) studying Fine Arts, Painting and Arts Education at Bank Street College and is currently studying in the New School Media Studies program. She has recently been working in video installation and performance art projects. Her performances and installations have been included in programs at the Montclair Art Museum (2006), Dietch Projects Art Parade (2006), Art in Odd Places (2007), The Jersey City Art Museum (2008), and Wassaic Art Festival (2009). She is a member of Pro-Arts in Jersey City, _gaia a womens collective and currently working on a series of sculptural dresses based on Chinese pagodas. Her work is infuenced by her encounters on travels abroad and the small moments of every day life. She lives with her family in Montclair, NJ. |
